How do I prevent PETG from tearing and damaging my PEI or Glass build plate?

Always apply a release agent (like a glue stick, hairspray, or Magigoo) before printing PETG. PETG bonds excessively well to PEI, glass, and smooth surfaces. If printed directly onto a clean bed without a protective barrier, it can permanently fuse to the surface and tear chunks of the coating off during removal.

What part cooling fan speed should I use for PETG?

Unlike PLA, PETG requires very little cooling. For maximum mechanical strength and layer adhesion, keep your part cooling fan between 0% and 30%. If you use 100% fan speed, the layers will cool too quickly and fail to fuse, making your functional parts extremely brittle and easy to snap.

Why is my PETG stringing and oozing so much?

PETG is highly hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air quickly). Moisture turns to steam in the nozzle, causing severe stringing, oozing, and popping sounds. To fix this, dry the filament at 60–65 ℃ for 6 to 8 hours. Additionally, lower your print temperature slightly (staying within 220-250 ℃) and fine-tune your retraction settings.

Can I use this PETG for outdoor items like garden tools or car accessories?

Yes! PETG is an excellent choice for outdoor use. It has strong UV resistance, so it won't degrade and become brittle in sunlight like PLA. It also has a higher heat deflection temperature (around 70–75 ℃), meaning it won't warp in a hot car during the summer.

Why are the supports so difficult to remove from my PETG prints?

PETG naturally bonds very tightly to itself, which makes snapping off supports difficult. To make support removal easier, go into your slicer software and increase the "Support Z-Distance" (the gap between the support interface and the model) to around 0.2mm - 0.25mm.
