FAQ & Files

What exactly makes PLA+ different from standard PLA?

PLA+ contains proprietary additives that significantly reduce the brittleness of standard PLA. While regular PLA snaps easily under pressure, PLA+ has higher impact resistance and will flex slightly before breaking. It also features stronger interlayer bonding.

Is PLA+ heat resistant enough to be left in a hot car?

No. Despite its improved toughness, PLA+ shares the same low heat deflection temperature as standard PLA (around 55–60 ℃). If left in a hot car during summer or exposed to direct, intense sunlight, it will soften and warp permanently.

Can I use PLA+ instead of PETG or ABS for functional parts?

It depends on the application. For indoor mechanical parts like gears, hinges, or brackets that bear moderate loads, PLA+ is excellent because it is incredibly stiff and tough. However, if the part requires high heat resistance or outdoor UV resistance, you must use PETG or ABS.

Why am I getting more stringing with PLA+ than with standard PLA?

The toughening additives in PLA+ make it slightly more prone to stringing if printed too hot. If you experience stringing, try lowering your nozzle temperature by 5 ℃ (staying within the 210–230 ℃ range) and slightly increase your retraction distance.

Does PLA+ require an enclosed 3D printer?

Not at all. PLA+ has an extremely low shrinkage rate and practically zero warping. It prints perfectly on open-frame printers at room temperature, making it incredibly beginner-friendly.
